Nexgard Spectra kill ticks (including Rocky Mountain wood tick, brown dog tick), however there is no mention of black-legged ticks.

It depends on his weight really. German Shepards generally heavier than 30 kg. If your dog's weight 30 kg or more you should use this product. If it is less than 30 kg then you should go for Large.
